Hello,

Thanks for any support anybody may give.

I have decided that I am tired of buying brand named computers and wanted a new project...So there I went searching through a boot load of stuff I am not up to date on.

I have replaced iternal drives and memory before but that is about the extent of my building knowledge. I am a little worried about the CPU install and motherboard configurations. I have heard you can screw up the entire machine if this is done incorrectly.

Anyways...Here is the system I was thinking of putting together and wanted to feel comfortable on my selections and compatability. I believe I have all the needed components, please let me know if I missed something...All items were from New Egg:

I will use this for normal computing, Video and Audio editing and some gaming like Command & Conquer / Warcraft / Black Ops

Looks good. I don't see any problems with it.

Do you really need Win 7 Ultimate instead of Professional? Just a thought.

I already have a copy of Ultimate...Is that a more demanding OS or something? Is Professional a beeter choice?

No it's not more demanding, it's just more expensive and the only advantage it has over Professional is BitLocker. If you already have it, then go for it.

Thanks.

So this should be a pretty solid machine.

Are the components I choose good quality, performers etc...

In specifi I am wondering about the
CPU
Video
Motherboard

Thanks again for your fast response

Will the video card fit in the case? The case states it is 19.20" x 8.60" x 19.50"...if the cards is basically 11 + the connectors, and the bays in the front of the case...how do you determine if it will fit? I would hate to puschase and then the thing not fit

After a little google searching, I found that the 5870 will not fit in the Storm Scout.

I think a better choice is either the Radeon 6970 or the Nvidia GTX570.

what about this case?

http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-RC-922M-KKN1-GP-Tower-Black/dp/B0026FCI2U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1295756229&sr=8-1

Its $90 now, and if you are student you get free amazon prime. It was 99 when I bought it, but saves like 30 bucks on shipping...

Thanks so much for taking the time to talk with me. Without this forum I would be lost!

So this card looks to have better performance but isnt it the same size 10.5" x 4.38"

Is it because it is a Mid size case? If I were to go to a ful size I wouldnt have to worry?

Also what about the other items? Solid choices?

Oh yeah, very solid choices. Really like the GTX570 too.

My personal choice for a case is the Cooler Master 690 II Advanced. I also like the HAF 932 and 922.

Found this website about the Scout Coolmaster

Also click the Video Card Size Chart; in the middle below the videos for more

I saw your post and I was looking around on coolmaster stuff and ran across the link I provided...Several people have these large cards in the scout.

Looks like I am almost ready to pull the trigger then and get this project started.

Would I need to purchase cables? I did not see any where that they are provided. Wouldn't the items come with the needed cables?

I guess I can always wait and then purchase at a local store as needed

I am not missing anything right?

This will be the most I have ever spent on a computer and just want as few hassles as possible

Thanks again for all your support

All the cables and connectors will come with all the components.

In your OP, you didn't list a monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers (or headset), or OS. I assume you have all that.

Yes I already have those items...just need an updated machine.

so sounds like my only questionable area is the case being large enough for the video card. I have an email in with the manufacturer to see if they can shed more light.

Is it time to start getting excited about building a new PC?

You do know that you can't re-use Windows. You will need to buy a copy of Windows 7 64-bit for system builders.

mastagolf

Yes all set. new copy windows. So sounds like I am ready to pull the trigger?

So I have done more digging and RickyTick was right...the coolermaster company even stated that the card wont fit...How big a card can fit into the antec900?

10.5 inches?

Also, what would a good power supply be for the case?
