i can attest to the durability of a mysuperpc.com build.
my current pc is the 2005 version of mysuperpc.
it has worked relatively flawlessly for the past 6 yrs.
it has handled everything i threw at it over the yrs
but, i think it is time to upgrade...
my current build:

cost
Case 95 Antec Sonata
Proccessor 220 AMD Athlon 64 3400+ socket 754
Mobo 115 ASUS K8N-E Deluxe
RAM 60 Crucial 512MB PC3200 DDR 400
RAM 60 Crucial 512MB PC3200 DDR 400
graphics 290 ATI All-In-Wonder X800 XT
3.5 Floppy 10 Sony 3.5 Floppy drive
HD 100 Western Digital Caviar SE 250GB
DVD 44 NEC ND-3550 A
DVD 44 NEC ND-3550 A
Mouse Logitech
Keyboard Logitech
Monitor 359 1905FP 19-in Flat Panel Monitor
Speakers
Webcam 19 Logitech Quickcam
1416

this build went as planned and with the exception of a
dead network connection on the mobo, it started right up.
i had a network card that i threw in for a temp solution
and never did fix the temp fix.

one thing i have noticed over the past 22 years:
all my pc's cost about the same...
my tandy 1000 8086 win3.1 cost $1300,
my 386 600mhz win3.3 cost $1300 (lasted 18 mths),
my 486 1700mhz win98 cost me $1400
and my current pc (listed above) cost me $1400 plus a little shipping.

i have a hp lazerjet that i bought in '95 for $700 that is still going strong,
but i fear technology has caught up with it as there are no longer printer ports on mobo's.
i did upgrade to 2gb ram, added a 750gb hd, replaced one dvd optical and never did get the webcam to work.
i also bought a 22'' dell flat panel that i will keep with the new system.

after building a couple of pc's with my son, i have learned to appreciate the antec cases
the hd's go in sideways vs straight with other cases.
as many times as i've upgraded/swapped hd's it is a time saver.

as good as my last superpc build was, i will probably use this site's recommended components.
that said, i am just starting to reseach my build.

I have a HP Laserjet 1100 on my 2008 SuperPC build. Got absolutely no help from HP on the 'plug' problem. Was able to purchase an adapter cable and plug (one or both contain the electronics). The computer end is a USB female plug, presently plugs into my front panel of my Sonata III case. Purchased from a company in Utah; I should have the info somewhere. If you think this would help, let me know and I will find the purchaser for you. It is an adapter made in Taiwan, works fine.

adding a card reader to gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3

just order parts for a mysuperpc.com build. i'd like to add an internal card reader in one of the 3.5 bays.
the GA-P55A-UD3 specs read internal I/O connectors: 2 x USB 2.0/1.1 headers.
i assume one is used for the front usb port and that the back usb ports are on the mobo.
will the 2nd usb header be available for a card reader?

newegg had a $96 deal on G.SKILL Sniper Gaming Series FM-25S2S-60GBSR 2.5" 60GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (dealnews.com)
so i'm using that as my boot drive and for a few programs
i have a 750gb hd that i will use for data/music

i also picked up the logitech x-540 speakers (http://www.logitech.com/en-us/promotional-items/devices/7329) for $42 using the coupon code logi_x540_21511

If you think this would help, let me know and I will find the purchaser for you.
after you posted this, i looked online for adapters.
the irony; as soon as i ask about my laserjet, it goes kaput.
i think i got my money out of it though, i bought it in 1994.
i know i paid over $500 for it.
i think i got my money's worth out of it...

thanks again mysuperpc.com

2nd build went flawlessly. i have a little over $1300 in ogre2.0.
including a flatbed scanner; my old one i could not make work with windows 7.
i bumped the ram up to 8gb after finding 4gb of off brand ram for $30 from mwave.com.
i'm still working on tweaks to speed boot up and to get5 the most out of the 60gb ssd.

i bought the Dell UltraSharp 1905FP *19" LCD monitor off ebay to match my existing monitor.
using twin monitors is something i've always wanted to try.
my wife rolled her eyes, but even she likes it for surfing.
i did look at new 24'' widescreen monitors at bestbuy today.
they are nice but i have a lot less in my dual 19'' monitors set up. maybe later...

thanks zburns
as i read thru the mobo manual, i found the mobo has support for serial and parallel ports.
all i would need is the adapter case-to-mobo cable to get it mounted on the back of my case.
read post #4 and you will see that my 17 yr old laserjet 4l went belly up.
RIP dear old 4l, it took everything that a family of 5 could give it...
i should have gone into the bios to see if it had a print counter.
we also have a samsung clp-300n network color laser that i bought the wife last yr

lpt & coma ports 17&18
