upgrade prioritization

Hello,

I built a system mainly using this site as my guide back in late 2007...I just left a belated tip, by the way :)...anyway, It's been hanging in there great, except for frying some RAM, which I think may have been a problem with my house's electrical system(?). I was planning to upgrade to Windows 7, and while I was at it, I thought I'd do any appropriate upgrades. I'd be grateful for any suggestions on how I should priortize this, along with recommendations for specific components. Here's what I have:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (w/Zalman cooling fan)
Motherboard: Asus P5N32-E SLI
Power Supply: Antec NeoPower 650W
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Tracer (4 x 1 GB) PC2-8500 1066MHz DDR2 w/LED lights
Video Card: EVGA GeForce 8800GTS
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar SE16 (750GB)
DVD/CD: Sony DRU-835A
Case: Antec 900
Monitor: HP w2207 (22 in.)
OS: Windows XP Professional

Hey Tom. Welcome back.

It really depends on what you use your computer for. What you have listed above is still an excellent system for basic home use. If you're a gamer, then you really only to need to upgrade your video card to maybe a GTX460 1gb.

Standard memory for that motherboard is DDR2-800. I would suggest a 4gb kit (2x2gb) of DDR2-800. Maybe something like this.

If you're installing Windows 7, I would highly recommend the 64-bit version.
