From my experience I have found that intel makes the best cpu's so I am thinking about going with intel, but if things have changed and AMD is better let me know. I am building the computer for my mom, so it doesn't need to be a high powered gaming rig, just using it to burn DVDs and surfing the internet and other common things. Here are a few I have found, I am looking to get one that has high quality parts that will last, so please check these and let me know thanks.

The two links you have are for older generation systems. Your ability to upgrade would be very limited.

If you're just building a pc for Mom to surf the web, check email, and play freecell, then going the AMD route makes more sense. The Intel i3 series costs more, plus the motherboard required is pricier too.

Take a look at the Budget Build in my Signature below. The first one is a "Non-Gamer" build. You could replace the cpu with this and save an additional $40. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103844

Thanks Rickytic, I might just go with that. Would I need to buy any additional fans or anything like that? Also I plan on using my old DVD drives which are PATA is the motherboard compatible? And do I need a grafix card?

You can buy a pata to sata adapter, but they're almost as much as buying a whole new drive. You can get a new DVD drive for less than $20.

No, you don't need a graphics card.
