Hello,

I have already posted on here recently about receiveing help with a build, i have recieved help with it and I am glad for it. I do, however, have another question related to it. The motherboard I am using will support at the minimun Windows Xp Service Pack 2. I plan to install this. My only windows disc is one with only SP1. Is there a way I can maybe download SP2 on another computer, save the file, and then transfer it to my computer I am building?

If you have a Windows Disc that you used to load onto a different computer, then it's not going to work on this one. Your license is only good for one pc, iirc. Actually, you can probably reuse the same disc, but you'll have to purchase a new license here. http://www.windowsmarketplace.com/

Unless you're a student with a .edu email address. Then you can get it for free.

Another thing to bear in mind is that SP3 has been out for a while now, so you should really use that as a minimum.

Well the registration key isn't a problem. But can I load it on there and then get the SPs on there even though it doesn't support the first SP? Will it be possible to install the uncompaatible one on and then update it? That is basically what i am asking.

Thanks

I would think that if you get a legitimate copy of Windows loaded, you can update it to SP1, 2, and 3.

Even though the Motherboard won't support SP1? It should work enough to just update it?

Thanks

I think the motherboard will support any OS, but Microsoft themselves don't view SP1 as being safe enough to install any more!

It is probably just a manufacturer's recommendation more than anything else. If you are worried, you can always "slipstream" SP3 into the installation CD using this method: http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/Slipstreaming_Windows_XP_Service_Pack_3.html
