Alright, I'm another newbie and just need someone to give me the OK before I start the bidding. Thinking about making it a 64bit system with XP so just something to keep in mind. Here are the links.

FYI - I know enough to get buy about the hardware. I will be playing some games but nothing hard core. I know core 2 duo is the new thing but a less powerful Pentium 4 in my laptop is doing all that I need now so I was thinking that this one should do the trick until the duo's or quad's prices fall. There is always room for upgrade. Lastly I know I left out the video card but I just can't make up my mind yet. Will surely be SLI capable and PCIe.

Thanks for the help. As a newb I really appreciate the response to give me a little peace of mind that this will actually work after I spend a grand or so.

Intel prices are falling in 3 days time, for the $99 you would pay for that you could probably get an Intel core 2 duo E6300 for the same on the 22nd.

And if your thinking about going down the SLI route, DON'T, its an overated way to con more money out of people.

Apart from that the rest of the setup looks good.

I would go for a 7900 GS, its cheap for a gaming GPU and it will play anything out now on the highest graphics especially if you pair it with a core 2 duo.

I agree with Jamie about SLI - sounds good, but never lives up to the hype unfortunately. One more powerful graphics card is always better than two less powerful in SLI.

Thanks for the responses. If I decide to go with a Core 2 Duo with a 1066 fsb then should I get DDR2 1066 ram also instead of DDR2 800?

It doesn't make that much difference, to be honest. Most motherboards only support up to 800 MHz RAM, and some DDR2 800 with a lower latency will beat some DDR2 1066 with higher latency any day of the week.

As a rule stick with the uperend of your cpu motherboard system capabilities just make sure there compatible to insure a working rig. If it don't boot it don't make since. “If it doesn’t fit, you must acquit,”

SLI is cool to talk about but thats about it. that is unless you have $1000.00 worth of video cards and a $5000 1080p plasma monitor hooked up to them. Now then it would be cool to have. If moneys was no object I'd say do it.

Sweet. Thanks for the advice. I have made some changes on my parts. Found out its easier than I thought to have a good system at $1000 with a great core 2 duo. Any last thoughts would be great. The wish list makes it easier to look also.

Scrap the 8600GT mate.

Get a 7900GS or a 7900GT, much much much more powerful :D
