So I've wanted to build my own PC for a while, but I've never gotten around to do it. I don't know much about computer hardware, and I've tried my best to put together a compatible system. Feedback would be appreciated. :)

Case - Antec 900 Gaming Case $139.99

CPU - AMD Athlon 64 6000+ $169.99

Mobo - ASUS M2N32 SLI Deluxe Wireless $169.99

PSU - OCZ GameXStream 600W $119.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341001

GFX - EVGA $279.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130082&ATT=14-130-082&CMP=OTC-yah00TT

RAM - Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 2GB Dual Channel $126.00
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145034

HD - Samsung SpinPoint T Series 400GB $84.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152085

DVD - LiteOn SATA DVD Drive $36.99

I already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers from old systems.

My questions:

Is everything compatible?
I don't know much about DVD drives, is the one I picked out good enough? Any recommendations? I also see that sometimes people get two of these, should I get two myself?
Do I need any more fans? The Antec900's got some HUGE fans, but is it enough? If so, what would you recommend?
I'm not big on high-quality sound, so would the on-board audio on the mobo be enough? All I use is a two-set speaker system that I place on the left and right of my monitor.

Again, I don't know much about hardware as this is my first system, so thanks for any help at all! :D

I can't really be bothered to tell anyone to go down the core 2 duo route anymore  :D

Have a look through some of the other threads mate and you will find all the info there.

I'll give you a quick run down on whats good and bad (if any)

Case is very good. I got one myself

CPU and motherboard, four words, GET A CORE-2-DUO

That power supply won't be enough to power that graphics card, get a 650 watt one.

GPU is very nice

Ram is excellent, i have that in one of my gaming rigs.

The rest looks good.

Onboard sound is pretty decent so you won't need to buy a soundcard.

Hope this helps

Updated some stuff:
PSU - OCZ GameXStream 700W $139.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341002

And after reading into AMD v. Intel comparisons, I think I'm probably going to go with the Intel setup:
Mobo - ASUS P5N-E SLI $124.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131142

PCU - Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 $222.90
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115003

I hear the motherboard runs pretty hot, will I need to purchase any additional aftermarket fans? The Antec900's four big fans seem enough to me.

Oh and I forgot to mention I'll be running Windows XP until the market forces me to use Vista.

That motherboard doesn't run hot at all mate, i have one as you may have seen in my previous posts, continuously banging on about how good it is :D .

In my antec and it is pretty humid here in london my mobo runs at 27degC.

The Antec 900 is an Ultimate gaming case as the title suggests, you would never have to think about putting any extra fans in it. It has 3x 120mm Antec fans already (and Antec make some of the best fans out there) and if that isn't enough they stick a giant 200 mm one in the top.

All the fans have speed controllers on each individual one and on the lowest setting (you get low-med-high) you won't even be able to hear your PC. I have mine on the lowest settings an i have never had a PC run so cool. So if you were to crank them up to med or high your going to have an ice box in there :D

Don't worry about vista until you need to, which will probably be around or just after christmas.

Hope this helps mate :)

Yeah, stay away from Vista at the moment - I had nothing but trouble with it. In the end, I formatted my PC and went back to XP. :)

Looks like you've got a nice rig going there - enjoy putting it together.

Vista has treated me nice with only a few older software compat issues. Test drive it at the local best buy and see if you like it and then purchase it at a online academic software store. I paid 64.00 dollars with no tax and free shipping for the perimium version upgrade and then installed it over itself just install it the first time without a password key. Put the password in the second time.
