Hi all, Another first timer here, and I'm pretty much looking at the recommended build as seen before with a few changes.
Here's what I'm looking at:
case: COOLER MASTER Storm Sniper SGC-6000-KXN1-GP Black Steel, ABS Plastic, Mesh bezel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Power Supply CORSAIR HX Series CMPSU-750HX 750W
Motherboard GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
CPU Intel Core i7-930 Bloomfield 2.8GHz
Ram G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9T-12GBRL
Video Card EVGA 01G-P3-1373-TR GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) Superclocked
Hard Drive Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache
Optical Drive SAMSUNG Black SATA DVD Burner w/LightScribe Support
Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders
I'm not set on the case, but that seems that it will fit my needs.
I may look at overclocking the cpu, so will that keep it cool enough? Should I buy a seperate cpu cooler? Will overclocking be more work than its worth?
I've up'd the ram to 12 gig. I've read somewhere that 1600 ram may not work will with this hardware config, is that true? Anybody have any issues getting the 1600 out of it?
I may just use an existing DVD burner to save some money, but its older and they don't seem to be too expensive.
I'm not into gaming so much as running alot of programming/database applications and working with large files.
Do you think this will be good setup? I've thought about buying 2 of the 12 gig ram kits to put it at 24 gig, as I believe that is the max the hardware config can handle, but not sure its worth the money or if its possible.
As I'm not concerned as much about the video, I'm not sure if that card is over doing it?
I'd like something nice, but don't need anything crazy.
I'm looking at upgrading my monitor also.
Any ideas on a good match for a monitor? May something in the 20"-24" range?
I've seen some LCD TV's that have PC inputs. I'm thinking one of those will do me fine?
Any of your thoughts are appreciated, and what a great site! Lots of helpful info.
Thanks!
