System:

MB: Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4P
Processor: Intel Core i7-860 (quad-core)
Ram: Crucial 8192MB (8GB) PC3-12800 DDR3
Video Card: eVGA Geforce GTX 260 Core 216 896MB DDR3 PCI-E

Quadrupled checked all wiring. Even had a partner check my work.

MB, Processor, RAM, and Videocard are installed. Power supply is on, jumpered and took out battery to restart the CMOS. Plugged in monitor.

Turn on system for first boot and here is what follows:

All three fans turn on, all LED lights turn on, and a repeating long continuous beep follows. The MB manual states that this is a power error, but it doesn't explain what power error means.

What could we be missing?

What is the next step I should take?

What is the voltage spec on the RAM? Gigabyte motherboards don’t like more than 1.8 volts.

My guess is it’s a RAM problem. Have you tried just one stick of RAM. Check the manual see which slots are appropriate. When in doubt try all four slots, one at a time. I don’t think it’s a power issue. If the fans spin that probably means the PSU is good. So that means it’s either the RAM or the mother or is bad or the motherboard just doesn’t like that particular type or RAM. Gigabyte motherboards and known to be picky about the RAM they will run.

it is possible that you may need slower RAM. I’m building a similar system and I’m going with the following:
Crucial Ballistix 4GB (2 x 2GB) X2 = 8 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory Model BL2KIT25664BN1337 $200.00
