Rob,
I just finished building (successfully) a computer mostly like you described. I had a BIOS configuration problem which I don't understand and would like your insights. Your instructions say to set the three SATA control parameters to AHCI in the integrated peripherals section. When I did that, the SATA hard drive could not be found. When I changed the values back to IDE everything worked fine. Since both my optical and hard drives are SATA, I find this hard to understand. I searched the forum and found three cases of this in the last three months. Could you please post some information on this? I have posted this problem elsewhere on the forums, but just to be sure there are no questions, here is a copy of my computer hardware.

Here are the internals:

Motherboard = GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD4P
CPU = Intel Quad-Core i7-860 Lynnfield 2.8GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 95W
Video card = EVGA GeForce GTX260 Core 216 896MB DDR3 PCI-Express 2.0
PSU = CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V
RAM = Crucial Ballistix 2 GB DDR3
OS = Windows 7 home premium 64-bit builders pack
HDD = Western Digital 1000GB 7200rpm SATA WD1001FALS
CD/DVD = Sony 24x DVD RW, AD-7240S-0B

In addition to the above new parts, I am using on-hand parts as follows:

Microsoft wireless optical mouse and keyboard
dual speakers
2 wide-screen HD 22-inch LCD monitors (soon to be expanded to 4)
full tower case with a pull-out drawer for mounting the motherboard.
