My 1(for the moment) question is regarding the processor. The Intel core I7-860 2.8 GHz with fan is around $289 at newegg.

I'm not a huge gamer, play Call of duty and NHL 2010 from time to time! My current system is a DELL XPS 410

1 other silly question I have verizon FIOS internet, Where exactly is the "modem" (ya, not the right word) for the system located? Is that something else one has to purchase???

The i7-860 has been replaced by the i7-870. If you're going with MySuperPC build, you should upgrade the video card to something like the Nvidia GTX460.

You don't need a modem with FIOS. Verizon will provide you with a router and connect fiber optic line directly to it. They have what's called a Triple Play, which is a very nice package.

Yes i know i do not need a "modem" but whats the card one needs for the FIOS to work. My computer terminology is lacking,lol I have had FIOS for over a yr now and it is great, have the Triple play package!!

Any other changes one would make?? Without drastically increasing the price! I think I had it worked out to around $1085 on Newegg

I see that Newegg and many other places no longer carry the Sony DVD RW, can you recommend another? As long as one can watch HD moveis and burn disks!

Nice choice for a video card. There is also a 1gb version of that video card that is even better, but about $30 more.

Samsung makes very nice DVD burners. Can't go wrong with them.

To be honest Scott, I've never watched HD movies on my pc. You'll probably need a video card with an HDMI connector. I'm not totally sure, and I don't want to tell you something wrong.

The processor is the same price, but it requires an X58 motherboard and triple channel ram. Going this route is great, but it could potentially add a couple hundred dollars to the overall build price.

I stream Netflix movies and I watch DVD's on my pc, but none of them are in HD.

This setup should play any game at very high settings (or max settings) for several years. At some point, you'll probably want to go with a larger monitor (I would). Expect to upgrade the video card in 2 to 3 years, but overall this system should stay strong for a long time. That's just my guess of course.

I'm a Dell fan, and your system will run circles around that Dell. That 5450 card is very low end, especially compared to a GTX460.

Soem things get a bit confusing, such as the video card. Looking at the EVGA GTX 460, there is a 465, I think there was a 465 superclocked,lol

FAN???? Do you recommend to buy another fan to keep things cool?? And which 1 would you go with?? (Processor Intel i7-870, motherboard, Gigabyte GA-p55a-ud4p and Videocard, EVGA Geforce GTX) Some say the videocard creates a fair bit of heat.

Reading on other forums--they say go with AMD!! Less $$$$ but as good or if not better than intel! They say as well that INTEl is coming out with new boards, so down the road, you MAY be back at square 1, BUT if one went with AMD, their new stuff will still work with the current stuff. Does that make sense???

What do you think of this;?

When someone posts here with a build list and asks for suggestions, I usually don't try to change their desired brands unless it is obviously a huge mistake. So if you start out with Intel, that's where I'm going too. I really don't have a brand preference, only different brand experiences.

So really, AMD does seem to offer a better upgrade path, but I've heard that argued on other forums too. Have you looked at my Build List? The third one is a really nice AMD setup. Check it out here (http://forums.mysuperpc.com/showthread.php?t=3368).

I was told on another forum (ya i know,lol) that the 6x was not a great gamer, but better at multitasking. is that true?? Would I be better to go with the 1 I listed first, or urs?? Would I have to change mother boards if i went with the DENEB??

There's very few games that take advantage of 4 or more cpu cores, but the trend is in the direction of more cores not fewer.

Both of those AMD processors use the AM3 chipset. So they both work on that motherboard. That 965 is great.

It all looks great. Nice combo on the case and psu.

The specs don't list the DDR3 1600 ram, so you might go with DDR3 1333 instead.

Sorry to potentially confuse things further, but Intel are planning on massive price cuts for the i7 950 - dropped to about $295, apparently.

Ni, I d on ot think it changes anything!! From my reading, Intel is coming out with new motherboards, so prices for the current intel may decrease, BUT in a few yrs, ur current MOBO may be obsolete, so one is back at almost square 1.

If I stick with AMD, their current mobo, should support future stuff!!

I'm not a huge gamer, so I think the AMD set up I put together should be fine.
