Hi, great site here, after reading the first page I am hooked on building my own SuperPc.

My question is, I want to use the following video editing program, which my current desktop, ( 2002 Dell dimension 4500, 2.0 P4,) and current cheapie laptop ( Toshiba Sat L305, T3400 cpu,) are not geared up for.

This is the link to the requirements page for the program:

I am doing home movies, etc with HD content/.mov files and Windows movie maker does not cooperate with .mov files, so I found some freebie converters and they work, but I do not like the process. I would much rather have a program that I don't have to work at using the raw files I capture/film. I mention this as my end results are home movies that might end up on youtube, so I'm not in the same league as $2K cameras and $2K software, etc.

I tried the trial version on my laptop and it worked, but was not too happy about it, so I figured it was time for a new desktop. I did some clicking around the dell site ( that is how I bought my first desktop,) and by the time I picked the options I wanted, I was in the $1800 plus range, plus I wanted to add another 1TB storage HD, yuck. Fortunately I found you guys and now I am excited to build my first pc.

My first dumb question is, based on what the software requires, would the "Wise Monkey" budget build work or should I go the i5 budget plus build?

Price wise, by the time I add a $220 monitor, extra 1TB HD, card reader, and wireless card ( to both builds,) they're only about $200 apart, $1000 vs $1200. I did change the budget plus to the i5-760 Lynnfield 2.8.

Second question, I did a fantasy build based on the SuperPc build and it puts me at the $1550 range, ( with all the added hardware mentioned above, as well as an Intel SSD.) Would I be foolish for not spending the extra $350 for an i7 build?

Thanks guys, Rob.
