I am having trouble with my wireless card so I have decided to use an ethernet connection, but when i plug in the cord it doesnt connect. Do i need to connect something on my motherboard or install something?

What trouble are you having with your wireless card?

There are loads of different reasons why your ethernet connection may not work:

- Missing drivers
- Incorrect configuration
- Router settings
- Wrong/dodgy cable
- Broken hardware

So... let's try and narrow it down! What OS are you using?

My OS is Windows Vista 64-bit. And my wireless card is just really old and the antenna has been knocked off so it just is a little messed up, but i just used it as a temporary fix till i got my new one.

Ah, OK then - that makes sense. :)

If you have a look in the Device Manager (which you should be able to access via the Control Panel) does it list your network card in there without any exclamation marks or question marks next to it?

It has an exclamation point next to it and when i click on it it says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". And when i click on check for solutions nothing happens.

Just had a quick check on the Microsoft website, and it appears to just be a generic error:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943104/en-us

The first thing they recommend is to try re-installing the drivers for the network card.

Cool. What exactly was the problem in the end, and how did you fix it? Always helps in case someone else arrives here with the same problem!
