First Boot No Video

Hey, so this is my first build, and when I power up like everyone else I have fans and lights but no video display and also no beeps. I only have one stick of RAM in, did not install my video card since there is onboard graphics (doesn't work even with vid card installed), hooked up 24 pin from psu to motherboard, have checked processor and no visual errors. Unless I am completely missing something, it should all be working but its not.

Did you also connect the 4-pin adapter from the PSU to the socket near the CPU?

I assume you're talking about the one on the left. I have plugged into the one circled on top, however my psu doesn't have a cable that is 4-pin. Unless I'm just blind. It has 8 and 2 and 24.

Ok well I am blind. There was an 8pin from the PSU that split into two 4pins. Once I plugged that in it came up and everything is going properly. Thanks for the help and I'm just really dumb.

What you call a dumb mistake is the most common assembly mistake I have seen over the last 18 months on the forum; it is pretty frequent so do not feel too bad.

I am curious tho, your mobo manual does indicate a 4 pin ATX plug in addition to the 24 pin plug. But did your Corsair manual or instructions tell you that the 8 pin plug would separate into two 4 pin plugs and what they are for?

Your video card should have a socket (4 pin ?) for a plug from the PSU in addition to the PCB card plug. How many pins in that separate socket?

Does the Corsair instructions or manual tell you which cable and plug go to the video card?

I am just curious how good the instructions are on how the +12volt psu cables are used.

Uhh honestly the PSU manual didn't say much beyond installing it in the case. The video card runs on a 6-pin power one which has a 2-pin splitting off of it. They only reason I really noticed the 8-pin -> 2 4-pin was because the 4 pins on the end of the 24-pin can off at one point during installation.

Thanks for responding to my questions. Your answer does not suprise me. My antec case and Earthwatts PSU is now over 2 years old; my manual told me very little, if anything, about multiple ATX +12volt plugs. I recently checked on line for a current Antec manual on my case and PSU to see if changes had been made. Still the identical manual of 2 years ago.

Again, the problem you had is quite common. I guess we all should complain to the manufacturers to get them to explain more about the PSU connections to the various boards. They do not like to say much about this topic because they feel they give up trade secrets or "its giving the competition an edge if they reveal features or lack of features about their product".
