Questions:

---> Will this computer be internet capable with only the things here, or do I have to buy something extra?

--->Do I need to buy an extra fan?

--->Should I use Arctic Silver 8?

--->Which case would be better? Is there another case someone has used that they can recommend?

Thank you for all of your suggestions!

I think that's an awesome awesome build. Yep, that's double awesome. :D

The only thing you need to connect to the internet is a modem, router, and ethernet cable.

It's really hard to recommend cases. Each person has such different tastes.
If I were building a system today, these are the cases I would be considering.
Cooler Master HAF922, HAF932, 690 II, or Storm Sniper.
Antec 902, or 1200
Thermaltake has some great cases, and Lian Li is always top of the line stuff.

Look through some of these video reviews and get a few more ideas. These are all very high quality cases.

Oh I almost forgot.
Some Artic silver would be nice, but the processor comes with a compound.
If you choose the right case, you shouldn't need more fans.

Thanks for the advice! I have a wireless router already; we use our laptop for the internet right now. So I guess I just need an ethernet cable?

I'll look through those video reviews, too.

I'm glad that I got a "double awesome" :D

You did not mention a cooler for the cpu. The intel stock cooler does not get good reviews which means it will run hotter than it would if you use a better cooler. My personal opinion is that you should run the cpu as cool as possible, meaning you need a cooler that does the best job.

I have read good reviews on this cooler: COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus. Here is a good review on this cooler. It is very inexpensive. It is also one of the quieter coolers. Here is a link to a good review on the Hyper 212: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1046-page2.html

There are some other coolers rated a little higher; I will have to look for them tomorrow and give you links to them also.

The more fans you have in your case, the more noise you will have particularly if the cpu is overclocked which you will probably do for gaming. You are not really loading up a case, at least right now. If you think this configuration will be good for you for several years, you need to pick a case that does the job with a minimum of fans, again, if fan noise is a concern.

I think I'll go with that one. Do I still need to buy the Hyper 212 with this case? The reviews state that the case is really good with cooling.

Oh, and for the internet...so if I'm already set up with my wireless router on the laptop, do I need to buy anything to go into the computer to get on?

Also...will I be able to fit all of my sweet sweet components into this thing? :)

After some consideration, I decided to get this:

Great choice on the 902. That's a super price after rebate, and with free shipping it's a steal.
You've put a lot into this system. I suggest going ahead and getting the cpu heatsink/fan.
Ok, so your router is wireless. Is this desktop going to be near the router? If so, then you'll need an ethernet cable to plug your pc to the router. If you plan to run the internet wirelessly on this computer, then you will need a wireless card for the pc. I hope you have the ability to hard wire this pc directly into the router. That's a much more reliable connection for gaming online.

The Caviar Blacks are all excellent. It will work just fine.

Lorizzle, Your post the other day raised the question about the need to purchase additional cpu cooling: "The reviews state that the case is really good with cooling." This statement refers to the fact that the review is, in effect, saying that the case is well designed for ventilation, air flow, and has lots of openings for multiple fans. These features "enhance" cooling. You still need a cpu cooler/heatsink on top of your processor.

In the past and, maybe still right now, cpu coolers/heatsinks are treated as the last item to be chosen, "not much difference between them, etc., etc."

I have been looking at cooler reviews for maybe four weeks now; main reason is that most of them look like you are putting the Empire State building inside your case. While I object to their size, these tall "full of fins" coolers do get cpu temps down; some of the coolers obviously better than others, etc..

NOW, THE REASON FOR THE ABOVE RAMBLING, here is a recent March 2010 review that has a interesting twist to it, and maybe a very important one. I have only read the last page regards conclusions but it signals "cpu heatsink size" and heat disapation as being important in picking a cooler. This is 24 page review of at least thirteen coolers and four stock intel/amd stock fans, here is the link to the last page: http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=432&Itemid=62&limit=1&limitstart=23

The short paragraph headlined "Best CPU Cooler Conclusion" gives a good summary of what the review is all about!!

Lorizzle, I would hold off on choosing a cooler for a few days. I think the comments in this article should be taken into account on which cooler you choose. I hope others read this particular review and comment on it.

There are so many coolers out there; it is a rapidly changing product market (cooler). There are a small number of very good reviews on coolers that should be taken into account. (The Hyper 212 is high on all lists). All of us who build our own computer always have one single goal, get the best product we perceive to meet goals at the time we "build".

You guys are awesome for helping me out like this :)

So I decided to go with the hyper 212, and I will get a wireless adapter card for my computer. The grand total, after everything, will be $2049. Whoo! Gracious. But I know that I'll have this computer for a long time, and the experience of putting the computer together myself will be invaluable. Plus, I'm sure a rig like this would be more like $3500 or so if I just went out and bought it. I'm going to buy everything tonight. Wish me luck!
