Hi Guys,
im new here and found this website via Google :).
I think your all smart people so i like to show you my config i like to build
Intel Core i7 930
Asus P6T WS pro, not sure if there are better boards atm. lost track a while ago :)
12GB OCZ DDR3 RAM
2x PNY Nvidia Quadro FX 4800 (SLI)
2x OCZ 120GB Turbo SSD (Raid 0)
1TB Data disk
A-brand 1000w power supply
Do you have any comments on this config ? This is for my work, we like to use 3d Stereo view (nvidia) on some big 3d models. thats why we have 2 expensive quadro cards.

That's a pretty beasty build!
To be honest, I would recommend holding off for a bit if possible - Intel are going to be releasing the new 6-core i7 980X soon, which would be worth considering if your software supports it. Runs at about $1000 just for the CPU though, so maybe not.
ASUS motherboards have also had trouble in the past running the full 12GB of RAM due to a lack of voltage; bear this in mind if you are having problems with it being recognised. Are you sure you need that much?
This post explains the memory issues well: http://i4memory.com/f54/asus-x58-6-12gb-memory-overclocking-detecting-less-memory-than-installed-19200/
Oh, and welcome to the forums. :)

Hello Phoenix. Welcome to the forums.
Are you building a Workstation or a PC?
Take a look at the Asus P6X58D motherboard. It offers a lot of what the WS pro has but it has USB 3.0. You may find it a better option.
12gb of ram is just way too much. Start out with 6gb (3x2gb) and see how it goes. You can always add more ram later if needed.

Thanks for your replies.
I am now a little worried about the problems with 12GB.
though we would really like to use 12GB. 6 is not enough. We now have computers with 8GB and that runs fine, and i like to use tripple channel. So i guess that means 6 or 12 right ?

You could use 9GB - 3x2GB and 3x1GB.
I think the problem is more to do with trying to run 6 sticks of RAM at 1600Mhz. You might get away with 12GB at 1333/1066, but I'm not sure.

Im a little confused now. Im new to i7 and ddr3, but isnt i7 by default running at 1066 so 12gb 1333/1066 would be fine for me right ?
does i7 benefit from faster memory if im not overclocking ?

Sorry, I just assumed you were going to run it at 1600MHz for some reason!
If you get 12GB of 1333MHz RAM, then everything should work fine. I was drawing on some past experience with someone else on the forum, but he was trying to run the RAM at 1600MHz instead.
To confirm, check ASUS's website for a list of approved RAM, and use one of the things that they suggest.

Ok the Corsair XMS3 1333 seems to be valid for use with 6 modules (12GB)
I think i will go for the p6x58d and this corsair with the 930.
