Installed windows xp Pro 64 bit edition. Having a heck of a time with drivers for printers, cameras, Norton Antivirus software, DVD player is choppy, etc. All of these items worked fine on my old machine (Windows XP Home) I have searched the manufactures sites and they do not have drivers for XP 64 edition. My thoughts are that they are have been focusing on Vista and really avoided the XP 64. If I upgrade to Vista and install the premium edition X64 am I going to run into the same problems???

Windows XP Professional x64 Edition is well-known for its problems with drivers. Microsoft support has this to say about it.

Windows Vista has good reports of software and hardware compatiblity with previous version of windows. However, there is a Windows Vista x64 which is surely just as problematical.

I understand both 32 bit and 64 bit come on the Vista disk when you purchase it. Would it be smart to run 32 bit and then install 64 bit down the road?

Yes, I would definitely use the 32-bit version. There may not ever be a reason to move to the 64-bit version.

So it is never recommended that you install 64-bit XP or Vista? Guess I might as well just use win2k. That's the last time they added a meaningful feature.

Theres not really much point, they don't have hardly any drivers.
