power supply help

i was removing my old power supply to put in a new one and upon finishing all other wire disconnection i discovered a large black master cord leading to the power button from the supply that is secured or screwed in place... this is an older computer and that cord is not on my new power supply... if anyone can provide a solution or some help it would be much appriciated.

Sounds like some sort of ground wire to me can you post a picture of it. If not try a new power supply and see what you get.
