I bought this: G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit

I looked for the same memory on Newegg to get a total of 12gb, and I found this
G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231247)

My original RAM is a bit smaller in height, and red. They are exactly the same model and specs. I've just never been in a situation where I've thought of adding more memory instead of completely replacing it. Advice?

Why do you need 12GB of RAM?

That would be the question of the day. As of last night, tests to determine a performance baseline were great; but my processor was noticeably getting drug down by my RAM, meaning my i7 is not at peak performance. And for the answer to my own previous question, a manufacturer response to a Newegg review of this RAM.

Manufacturer Response:.
Dear customer

we apologize for this inconvenience. however, the Intel I7 memory controller is not good to run with 6 modules installed. they need to have stronger single. if you use rated DDR3 1600 memory 6 modules, the best you can get is DDR3 1333. if you want to run DDR3 1600, you need to purchase DDR3 1800 or 1866 memory. there is nothing wrong with each memory modules, it just I7 doesn't support over DDR3 1066 if you check out the Intel I7 website. they only support up to DDR3 1066...........

Guess RAM upgrade will have to wait.
