I'm building a new system with an ASUS M4A78T-E MOBO and AMD Athlon II X4 630 CPU, and DDR3 RAM.

I've seen cautions that some Asus MOBO's, in some configurations, will only recognize 3GB of RAM.

Does this apply to the ASUS M4A78T-E ???

TIA

Ken

I think that not recognizing more than 3 gb of ram is a limitation of the operating system, and not a issue with the motherboard.

Yup, that MOBO can support up to 16GB, providing you have a 64bit OS that will recognize.

Ricky, that reminds me. Seen any good articles that you've seen that explain why anyone would actually benefit with 16GB? Seems like after 4-6GB it would be law of diminishing returns.

If you are working on some very graphically intensive stuff such as Photoshop with lots of layers, then you may end up using a huge amount of RAM.

it still takes alot to get anywhere near 16gb though. i put 16 in my newest beast and me and a friend ran wow wrath, media player, all of the ofice documents we could find, 8 windows of internet explorer and alot more and still only used like 3.8gb of ram.
