Hi all,
My 6+ year old Dell is starting to crap out on me, and since I've always wanted to build my own system, it looks like now is the time! :)
First a little background on my computer use. I'd say 90% of my computing is internet/email/office related. I like to edit my digital photographs in Photoshop, and I may buy Adobe Lightroom in the future for RAW image processing. I would also like to do some minor video editing in the future. Also, I would like the system to be able to play HD videos, since I may get a bluray drive in the future. I don't play any video games.
One more note...I have two monitors (Dell 17" and Dell 20" widescreen) and a new HDTV in another room with a VGA cable running to it. I'm assuming that if I want to hook-up all three of these monitors, I will need two video cards?
I would like to keep the price of this build ~$800cdn, but I have some flexability if it is required. My parts list:
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3L LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel - $114 (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128372)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 2.93GHz, 3MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB - $130 (http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4389472&CatId=2396)
RAM: Crucial 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin SDRAM DDR2 800 - $54 (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148160&cm_re=Crucial_4GB-_-20-148-160-_-Product)
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3500418AS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb - $70 (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148395&cm_re=seagate_500gb-_-22-148-395-_-Product)
Video Card1: EVGA 01G-P3-N959-TR GeForce 9500 GT 1GB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 - $71 (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130395)
Video Card2: GIGABYTE GV-NX72G512E2 GeForce 7200GS 256MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 - $28 (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125095&Tpk=NX72G512E2)
Case: Ultra X-Blaster ATX Black Mid-Tower Case - $40 (http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2337812&CatId=1842)
PS: Ultra LS500 Lifetime Series 500W - $68 (http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3255392&CatId=1079)
Case Fan: Ultra 120mm Case Fan - Silent, Dual Ball Bearing - $18 (http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3478781&CatId=802)
OS: Vista Ultimate 64-bit with Windows 7 Upgrade Coupon - $230 (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116493CVF&cm_re=vista_ultimate-_-32-116-678CVF-_-Product)
How am I looking? Any conflicting parts? Any concerns with running the two video cards? Is a 500W PS too much? And although I don't have much choice in the matter, I hope I can do a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate when it comes available. Ideally I would like to wait until it comes out, but I need a computer very soon!
