Hi all I'm a long time lurker who decided to finally register and start talking.

I recently got a super cheap insignia d300a computer for 10 bucks.

Cool thing is it came with a 2.8 intel p4 with a 400mhz bus. I would like to overclock this to 3.5 and use it to play wow with some friends.

My problem is I can't seem to find a motherboard on newegg.com that I can use with this chip. The board it is on does not support pcie. I also would like to know if anyone has some suggestions for a cheap but good video card for this setup.

Thanks in advance, I've been searching for a few hours , but I just can't seem to find anything. I am far from a expert so any help or direction would be great!

Welcome to the forums...ish. :)

It depends which P4 you have - the first types used socket 423, but that was around 8 years ago now. More recent iterations used sockets 478 and 775. Here is the better (out of two) socket 478 boards that newegg has in stock:

If you download a program called CPU-Z and run that on your current setup, it will be able to tell you exactly which CPU socket you need. If it is 775, then almost all of the current range of boards will work with it, giving you a much wider choice.

As for the video card, if your budget can stretch to about $125 then you will be hard pushed to find a better deal than this:

If your budget is more around $60, then here is another excellent deal:

If you prefer nVidia products, then this 9500GT should be enough to play WoW at high settings:
