K9N southbridge heat

I built an AMD system last September with the K9N and 4200 X2 and has worked well except for an early problem with sudden power-off during large file transfers. I find that the southbridge heat sink gets really hot even during idle. Is this common? I'm actively cooling it with a small fan since my video card draws air in from a duct directly above the sink.

It might depend on what you mean by "really hot". I've not head of it getting hot enough to cause problems. I googled around a bit and didn't turn up anything that would make me suspicious.
