Hello,

I almost feel silly asking this question, but I feel I need other opinions.

I have moved my home automation server from a Intel Dual Xeon 2.8Ghz with 3Gb RAM over to a Atom 330 Dual 1.6 with 2gb RAM this weekend.

I just moved the Hard disk over so its not a clean install of XP or anything.

But, to my surprise, the Atom seems much faster than the Xeon. I was not expecting this - I was expecting to compromise performance for power savings.

Is the Atom a more capable processor than the Xeon 2.8Ghz?

Thanks for any advice

Jon

Well, it is a few generations newer so it will probably be faster in some areas, but the Xeons are meant for servers and very highly threaded applications which you will not find and utilise in normal use.

As long as you are doing relatively light work with the Atom, you shouldn't run into any problems.
