Hi,
2yrs ago I used Rob's instructions and the help of the forum to build an entry level computer which worked fine. Last summer I upgraded to a E7200 processor and had a lot of trouble updating the bios but was finally successful and it ran well. This spring after returning from 6 months in Florida, on first boot the computer went to windows start but the keyboard didn't work. I tried it several times, each time using the start button to shut down because the keyboard didn't respond. Now it powers up but the screen remains blank.

I have no clue as to what to do but I suspect hard drive failure.

What to do to diagnose the problem. Thanks

Well do I feel foolish.

I went to try to troubleshoot the problem reported. Pressed f8 came to windows problem screen, reverted to last good setting and voila the windows splash screen! Still the mouse wouldn't work. Tracked cord to computer and it was unplugged (I swear I didn't do it) plugginto usb port and all was fine.

I think that when the mouse woudn't work and I shut down the machine with the on/off button several times it screwed up windows. Life is good!
