i am new to the world of computer building and need some assistance if possible.

the computer will be used for design graphics/photo editing(CS3 adobe suites) and some gaming (but want to be able to play the good games if need be)

i have narrowed my search to these 2 cpu's but cant decide between the two. i get conflicting info on which is better.

also what are some great motherboards beside the gigabyte ga-ep45 for the Intel.

thank you in advance for your help...:D

E8400 or Q8400? E series are dual core, Q series are quad core.

Either way, both of these processors will be a lot better than the X2 6000+, mostly because they are a few generations newer.

E8400 sorry about that.

with that said what is the best mother board for that cpu other then the gigabyte mentioned above?

also what video card do you recommended for optimal graphics without busting a gut?

thanks again for the help

While the E8400 is an excellent cpu, don't rule out the Q8400. It's not even $20 more and you get the benefit of 4 cores that could be very helpful with design graphics and photo editing. However the E has 6mb of L2 cache which is very nice for gaming.

The Asus P5Q Pro is a nice board too.

The best bang for buck in video cards is the Nvidia GTX260 core 216, and the Radeon HD4870 1gb.

Post number 1000 :D

Thanks. It's been fun.

I should talk to Rob and see if he will increase my pay here since I reached the 1000 mark. ;)
