I've been living with this problem for so long that I've totally forgotten the sequence of events that precipitated it. It may have had something to do with driver updates.

But, anyway, when I start my system I get a 'new hardware found' message.
It wants to run the setup wizard for my video card.
When I run the setup wizard it says no video card found.

The system is running fine, perfect video display. But I keep getting the message at start up.

What video card do you have?

Try removing the drivers and installing the latest versions from the manufacturer's website.

What video card do you have?

NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT

Try removing the drivers and installing the latest versions from the manufacturer's website.

I think that's what got me into this in the first place. :)
But it doesn't cost anything to try.
What's the worst that could happen? I could lose my video all together?

:(
It turns out the offending card is a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi.
But the result is the same.
I downloaded and installed the latest drivers, as I have done at least twice before, but I still get the 'found new hardware' message on start up.

Try using Driver Sweeper to completely remove the old drivers before installing the latest drivers:
