I just built a system using The Wise Monkey and RickyTick's recommended budget build sticky with the exception that I installed 4 gigs of RAM and I could not be happier. The build went very well and the build cost without monitor, mouse and keyboard was under $470 shipped. I am sure that will be slightly different in the UK. Anyway the system is super fast, I just finished editing and burning a home movie dvd in under ten minutes while surfing the web and the CPU temp never went above 51 degrees. I don't think you can go wrong following the suggested build.

I think rexh is right on the money. Take our Budget Build (http://forums.mysuperpc.com/showthread.php?t=1642), double the ram, and you'll do fine.

Hi Declan, I am from the UK too, it sucks that everything is so much more expensive here... XD

Anyhoo, this OCZ RAM is on sale at the moment, and from ebuyer too so free delivery:

It depends on what you are looking for in a case, to be honest. Do you like LEDs? Do you want a door? Do you mind where the front panel connections are situated, and even if there are any? You need to take all these things into cosideration - bear in mind that you will need to live with it every day. :)

PSU wise, this Arctic Power one is good value:

that mem seems cool its not much dearer than the 1 i found and its from ebuyer so free delivery with all other stuff

This Antec 300 case is pretty nice, and won't break the bank:

Built-in graphics have become really good for all the basic stuff, but won't be able to play games that much. See how it goes using the built-in graphics and you can always a separate card in later if you need to.

Looks good to me. You didn't list a mouse or keyboard, but that's not a big deal.

Belkin do some good USB adapters, or you could get a PCI card. They all increase in price as the range increases - how far away is your PC from the router?

If you are going to be doing any media streaming, you might want to consider some Powerline adapters. These turn your existing mains power cables into network cables, which is pretty good. Just plug one in one socket and plug another elsewhere in your home, and you are all set. :D

hey my router sits on my comp so range isn't a problem i would rather have an internal 1 than external and as internet is my main thing i want a pretty good one

i am very confused by the power line adapters are they acting as the wireless bit of it all

1. Plug one of the adapters into your mains socket.
2. Plug an ethernet cable from your router into the adapter.
3. Plug the other adapter into a mains socket near your PC.
4. Plug another ethernet cable into the adapter, and plug the other end into the PC.

That's pretty much it - it is faster than standard wireless, and you can have the PC as far away as you want without worrying about losing signal.

Here are some adapters; they are getting really cheap nowadays:
