Has the slot suddenly stopped working or have you never used it before?

hello wisemonkey
yes it suddenly stopped working...
the card and board i bought at the same time ...
first i noticed was ..
windows wants to find drivers for the video card.. (i used vnc coz no display was on the monitor.)
i did and the pc was ok again..
then a few days later display went out again..
you cant even see bios appear..
i removed the card and used the onboard graphics.. it works but i want the 8500 working for my games...
please help wisemonkey!!!

Before thinking about getting a new motherboard, try changing that primary graphics setting in the BIOS so that the PCI-e and the 8500 is at the top and see if that makes any difference.
Also, try downloading the latest drivers from the nVidia website.
Does the fan on the card spin at all?

hello there
tried already the new drivers... it worked for a while then blank again.
i cant see even bios...
so i didnt think it could be anything in windows and drivers.
i can acess bios using the onboard graphics.. and yes selected pci E at main graphics but no luck there..
now i re attached the sata and the card..
i was able to boot to windows..
but i dont know when will the next grim blankness of the monitor will happen waaaaaaaaaa
intermittent problems i hate....
im running everest right now ...
just to see if runing at full speed will bring back the problem..
but i noticed that it happens when i turn the pc on after a while of resting resting it... like over night...
but really intermittent ...
any suggestions ??
what could be happening?
i have 3 other pcs of the same specs and they dont behave that way...

Hmm...
Does the BIOS recognise that there is anything plugged into the slot when it is not working?
Does the fan on the card spin? Do any LEDs on it light up?

You said that you have other computers with the same spec, so do they have a graphics card you could try in the slot?
thundherheart
04-24-2009, 03:15 AM
yes ive tried the same card from the board in question..
it works
i tried to use the vcards from the other boards that has no problems
and still no output from the working card in the problematic board...
now its at it again.... no output again...
the onboard video works while the vcard is still attached to the board..
should it be that the onboard be off if a vcard is attached?
so it should mean that it cannot detect the vcard attached..
hmmm
i used vnc ..and i cannot see any errors on windows
boots to windows just fine..as if there was a video card attached..
but no output ...

This is very strange...
Have you tried a leaving one of the other cards in the current board for a few days to see if the problem occurs?
I'm just trying to figure out whether the motherboard or the graphics card is the problem, and I'm leaning towards the motherboard at the moment.

ok ill test the vcard continuesly on lavalays
how about memtest?
oh i want to mention..
after the pc booted with the 8500 vcard i tested using lavalys
after 20 mintues the monitor went blank..
even vnc was blank...
that was strange ....
i stopped the test remotely ....and the screen went back
is there a problem with the chipset?

It is starting to sound much more likely that there is an issue with your motherboard, which is a shame. To confirm this, it might be worth getting a really cheap replacement from eBay first and see if it works. Of course, then you are running the risk that the board from eBay doesn't work either... xD

its still under warranty so ill just get a replacement
its the board i think too..
at boot up no signal comes from the vcard...but i know the vcard is good..
probably something wrong with the slot...or the controller of the pci E..
chipset ...oh life....
well tnx wise monkey

Its good that it is still under warranty - let me know how it goes with the replacement. :)

OK, that is just weird.
There are several possibilities:
1. There is some electrical build up that could be shorting out the PCI slot.
2. You are just really unlucky and have got two motherboards from a bad batch.
3. It is all part of a secret government plot - trust no-one. Not even me. I could be one of them.
4. Aliens!
Try flashing the BIOS with the latest version that you can download from the Asrock site, and see if that changes anything:
http://www.asrock.com/mb/index.asp?s=AM2 (I think it is one of the ones from the top row)

hello wise monkey
alreay tried upgrading the bios from this
1.00 2/25/2008 570.01KB First released.
nothing happened... well it just reset the settings to default and dates ...
still same thing no video output from the pci card...
i talked with the tech from the store... he already sent the board back to asrock " i hope'
den i said a second board is doing the same thing
only help he could give was lend me one of his boards while 2 of mine are being repaired...
what could be the problem?
bad assembly of the boards?
bad components?
or its just soo cheap ?
coz i have 5 asrock p4vt8+ about 4 years old now and i havent even had a major problem with them..
den i bought one board asrock nf7 g hd ready... it also didnt give me any problems its almost 2 years old now...
so i decided to buy 4 more asrocks ....jeezzz!! life WHY ME WHY ME!!
haha
is asrock n68pv-gs any good?
coz i just bought the thing yesterday as a temp replacement for the board i sent for repair.. planning on buying it its own parts a month later..

You may have been really unlucky - since you bought four at the same time, they may have come from the same batch and hence may have the same problem.
I really don't know... XD

Relax, it's possible that the problem with your graphics driver is caused by poor contact solution or if there's any third party graphics card involved. These two are common hardware issues that lead to installation errors, but don't worry--they can be easily rectified by solutions such as compressed air cleaning and reconfiguring the BIOS to disable any other conflicting graphics card. You can learn more by reading this article on graphics card driver installation (http://www.driversupdate.org/graphics-card-driver-installation-problem.htm).

There really is no need to bump threads that are 18 months old. :)
