I purchased an ULTRA 700W psu roughly 6 months ago. I installed it into a computer I really couldn't save. I'm in the process of putting a new rig together and need to know a specific about 20 and 24 pin plugs. The psu I have has a 20 pin, the new mobo has a 24 pin socket. Can I use the 20 pin psu on this build?

Thanks, Tom

Does the PSU really only have a 20-pin adapter? Is there not a separate 4-pin adapter you can plug into the same slot to make 24-pins?

If it doesn't, then you can just get an adapter cable such as this:

By the way, I deleted your other thread asking exactly the same question...

Thank you (Wise Minkey) for deleting I put this question out to a couple different help forums and when I came here a second time I forgot I had already posted here.

I'm being told that the 20 to 24 pin adapter's are really not a good idea. Doing this may ultimately drain power from the cpu.

What has been suggested, instead, is to get a 20 pin and a 4 pin connector, connecting the four pin to a four pin peripheral power cable.
