Hello,

I'm planning to build a PC with the following configuration.

Processor: Intel Core2 Quad Q9400 95W (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115131)

Motherboard: MiniATX Intel BOXDQ45EK (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813121358)

Display: On-board Intel GMA 4500 (may upgrade to a high end nvidia card later)

RAM: 4GB DDR2 800

HDD: 500gb SATA @ 7200 RPM + USB powered 500gb external drive (WD Passport)

CD/DVD Burner: Yes

Could you tell me what should be the minimum power supply wattage I should be looking at ? .. My guess is 375W.

Also, I want to put this in a mini ITX box, but most miniITX boxes come with <200W of PSU, so I'm going to have to buy a PSU seperately. Would a regular PSU fit in the miniITX case? .. or do they have a special powersupply size for them.

Your comments on my chosen configuration and decision to go for MiniITX for this configuration are most welcome.

thank you,

regards,
Puneet

If you plan to upgrade to a high-end video card at a later date then you won't be able to fit it in a mITX case - the latest cards are all about 10"+ long.

If you want to have a very upgradeable case and easily uninstall and reinstall or add a 4870 ATi or and NVideo graphics card that at are high end but more reasonable prices Here is the case I would reccomend and it is very easy to take apart and has Thumb Screws for the top and back side of the case and a couple inside for the Disk Drives too. Thermaltake VF1000BWS Black Aluminum Front Panel/ SECC Chassis MicroATX Desktop Computer Case (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133035) from Newegg or from Tigerdirect which was cheaper but I linked to the review only because it is not available currently, but was cheaper then newegg before they became unavailable Thermaltake VF1000BWS Black Aluminum Front Panel/ SECC Chassis MicroATX Desktop Computer Case (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2844204&body=REVIEWS) I figured you might like to look at the case I bought because it is small and can easily be hidden if need be and is even a little light with everthing I have put in it too. It is also very expandable too.

Thanks for the replies ! ..
I might be getting a microATX board and box instead. Could you tell me what wattage would I need in the PSU for this configuration ?

thanks

Depending on the card, you should be looking at about 500W+ - maybe as high as 600 if you decide to overclock, add more hard drives or have a really top-end card that requires a separate PCI-e power adapter.

The standard PSUs that we recommend are the Corsair 650TX or 750TX, and these will more than suffice for your power needs. However, you may want to look at a modular PSU in order to save room inside the case. For example, the Corsair 520/620HX or the Antec NeoPower 650.

By the way, I'm not sponsored by Corsair or anything - its just that their PSUs are actually made by Seasonic, who have always traditionally made extremely good power supplies. :)
