Re install of AMD CPU

I have purchased a new motherboard and have installed the cpu. It is an AMD (not that I think it matters, in this case) and I am preparing to install the cpu fan. It says the heat sink already has paste applied (it is new). Should I trust this paste or should I apply some of my own? If I should apply my own, what is the best way to remove the factories paste?
