Thanks for all of the recommendations on this forum. I was looking at a few of the recommended MoBo options and while the majority of reviews are positive, there are still a few negatives about bad bios, DOA, etc. Is that the "norm" with any electronic product like a MoBo or graphics card? After reading some of these, I get nervous of doing my own build. Any insight would be appreciated.

There's really several things going on here.
Can you get a component that's DOA? Sure, it happens. I happen to think that a substantial number of the problems are caused by installation error. Another factor that I think makes a big difference is damage in shipping. They get banged around and tossed around. They sit it the back of trucks in extreme high and low temperatures. And yeah, maybe sometimes it's just a flaw in the manurfacturing process. Follow this tour (http://www.techreport.com/articles.x/15743) and you'll get a decent feel for how a motherboard is made. Another good one is here (http://www.techreport.com/articles.x/10232/1).
You really have to take a lot into consideration when reading the reviews on Newegg. I've seen so many reviewers give a product a 1 egg because of the price of a product, or the size of a product, or something else that had nothing to do with the performance of the product. And for the ones that claim DOA, just refer to my paragraph above.

Take all reviews with a pinch of salt as they are still opinions after all. If the majority of people give a product 4/5, then it is probably a good buy.
