Connect laptop to a monitor

hi guys. I have a laptop with damage screen. I tried to connect my lcd moniter 15'' to the VGA in my laptop. But it didn't work. I dont know why. Did i missed any step or anything? Can i try " s-video" ???? havent try it.

You have to set your laptop to output to the external screen. Depending on your laptop model, it might be a function key or a physical switch.

Check the manual (if you still have it!) to see if it mentions using a monitor.
