Hi Rob,
Just curious how much difference you notice in the 8400 vs 7200? Thanks in advance.

The difference in performance was much more than I expected. My Half-Life 2 benchmark went from about 125 FPS using the 7200 to about 175 FPS using the 8400. The PCMark05 also showed a much bigger jump than I expected.

The E7200 and E8400 computer configurations were identical except for the motherboards, but I don't think the motherboard itself would make much difference. Otherwise, the RAM, video card, hard drive and other components were identical (well, the DVD RW drives are different).

I also might mention that I'm very happy with the Samsung SATA DVD RW drive. I think it's the quietest DVD RW drive I've ever used. When I first put a DVD into it, I was puzzled as to how the app on it could be running because I hadn't heard the DVD RW spin up yet.
