Hey there, ive been wanting to build my own PC for a LONG TIME and just havent got round to it. But my PC that I use currently has become useless and needs to be replaced (its about 6 years old!) Im after a budget PC that is good at multitasking etc..
I have researched a few componants to go together but admittedly im finding it all rather confusing of what should go with what!

So I was hoping that somebody would read the hardware I have chosen and tell me if my choices would work together!!

CASE & POWER SUPPLY

Dabs Value Alien Gaming Case 480W - Black (32.85) http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspxQuicklinx=3LHH&CategorySelectedId=11145&PageMode=1&NavigationKey=11145,44110000

or

Colors-it 8011L-C4 Black Midi Neon Case Window 400W (34.99) http://www.xcase.co.uk/p/291310/colors-it-8011l-c4-black-midi-neon-case-window-400w.html

(i wanted a case that has a powwer supply with it just to save on cost somewhat)

PROCESSOR

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ AM2 2.8GHz (57.87) http://www.dabs.com/ProductReviews.aspx?Quicklinx=4DHS&CategorySelectedId=11147&PageMode=1&NavigationKey=11147,420620000,426640000

MOTHERBOARD - not sure what to choose from

Asus Motherboard M2R32-MVP AM2 ATIXPR3200CF ATX SND+GLN+U2+1394 FSB2000 SATAR http://www.techstore.co.uk/detail.php?prodLineID=109389&detailPage=over#det

or Gigabyte AM2 nForce 400 MATX A L G (40.45) http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?quicklinx=529X&CategorySelectedId=11143&InMerch=1

or Gigabyte AM2 AMD RS740 DDR2 MATX Audio Lan VGA FSB5200 (48.92) http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?quicklinx=529V&CategorySelectedId=11143&InMerch=1

I think the last 2 have onboard graphics, I know they prob arnt great graphics but as long as I can stream videos online and play simple games like 'sam and max' im happy.

HARD DRIVE

Seagate Barracuda 7200.1 500GB 7200RPM S300 32M http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?Quicklinx=4QXH&CategorySelectedId=11154&PageMode=1&NavigationKey=11154,372830000

nice cheap large hard drive

i know i need ram but i was wondering if these componants would work together and have I missed anything out, any help would be great, thanks!

Hi Weldon, welcome to the forums.

So your budget is around £250? First of all, I would recommend www.ebuyer.com - slightly cheaper than dabs, and free delivery on a lot of items.

I built a system for my sister recently using these components:

Black case: £13.39 - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130304
AMD X2 7750: £68.44 - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/155158
Gigabyte Motherboard: £51.51 - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/145300
460W PSU: £34.24 - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/150596
500GB WD Hard drive: £47.99 - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/124228
1GB OCZ RAM: £10.01 - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/105972
LG SATA DVD-RW: £15.79 - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/151999

This all comes to £241.37, and I can speak from experience and say that all of these components are high quality - I was surprised at how quickly the PC ran!

If you want to spend a bit more, you could go for 2GB of RAM for about £23 - this OCZ is an excellent deal: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/116755

You could also get a slightly better case, or go for a slightly cheaper PSU... but that is entirely up to you. :D

The more expensive processor will make a big difference in terms of performance - the one you originally chose is a few generations old now.

Actually, the more expensive motherboard you chose will perform better than the one I suggested because it has an AM2+ socket to match the better CPU (I chose the cheaper one because I wasn't entirely sure of your budget!).

You might find that you run out of space with only a 250GB drive, so you might want to consider going for the 500GB as its only another £10.

Both sets of RAM are very good and are almost identical, so its up to you which one to get. :)
