I bought the components for my husband and his son to build a computer (son & father stuff)

It went well but there is no sound. No the auto sounds that a computer makes when it loads up....or anything. The man (Father-in-law of son)who helped my husband said the new computers don't have sound unless you hook up outside speakers. That doesn't make sense to me.

Please save me and make this a positive happy experience.

The mother board is a
EVGA nforce 780i SLI Motherboard - A1 Version, NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI, Socket 775, ATX, Audio, PCI Express 2.0, Dual Gigabit LAN, S/PDIF, USB 2.0, Firewire, Serial ATA, RAID (E145-2034)

The video card is a
XFX GeForce 9600 GSO Video Card - 768MB DDR2, PCI Express 2.0, Dual Link DVI, SLI Ready (P450-9616)

Operating system
Windows XP

Thank you, Moria

I guess this was a case of "Is the TV plugged in?"
A neighbor came over and noted that there were two wires from the speaker into the computer. He said that one wire was cancelling the other out..hence no sound.
He was right.....

Thank you forum for being available. Knowing that you would give me a post helped me keep my cool.
