Hey folks, I was wondering if I could get some advice about adding some ethernet ready equipment to my home network.

I currently have my internet connection through a cable modem which is connected to a wireless router (wireless G) to which my PC is connected along with some laptops, etc.

I have purchased and plan to add A/V equipment that is ethernet ready, namely a BlueRay DVD player (Boxing Day super special!!!) and a future home theater receiver plus a media PC (building plans to come!).

So, my challenge is to connect the ethernet AV equipment to the internet in the most efficient manner as the cable modem and wireless router are located in one part of the house while the AV equipment will be in another part (separate floors to boot!).

I first plan would be to run some CAT5 to the AV cabinet from the home office. However, the cost and complexity of doing this may be unwarranted (I may also move the office) so I plan to go wireless.

Now, I want to use a wireless device to connect the various wireline devices. My first choice was a wireless gaming adapter, however these only allow 1 ethernet connection, which I guess could be expanded with an ethernet hub/switch.

My second choice was to get a second wireless router - but can I have this router link to my existing router and share the internet connection?

If so, can someone give me the quick and dirty of how this can be done?

I plan to get a new WirelessN router as they are now a lot smaller (eg. WRT600N by linksys) and once I change my office router I plan to upgrade to N as well.

Thanks

Check out the Powerline stuff - it turns your home power cables into network cables:
