My P5KC can take either DDR2 or DDR3. I currently have 6 GIG DDR2 800. I'm in no hurry to switch; since everything is running fine now. But, I'd like to know the minimum DDR3 that I would need to improve my system for when I do decide to improve it.

In case it matters;
E8400
7900GS
- nothing overclocked
Stock fan
520 watt PSU

All I can offer is a guess. Just reading a little about the mobo, it looks like DDR3 1066 would be good option.

I'm not even sure that getting 1066 DDR3 would offer any improvement in performance due to higher latencies which are part and parcel of using higher frequency RAM.

The only way you would notice any improvement would be to buy lots of expensive, high frequency, low latency DDR3.

Wise Monkey, did you not recently post a link regarding DDR3? I clicked on the link, it was multiple pages of reading a long review on DDR3 vs DDR2. I came away with the conclusion that it was way to early to really consider it. I treated it as an article of interest; did not try to really dig into it.

I can't remember - I make a lot of posts... XD

I think that DDR3 is a viable option if you have the money to spend to get the best, because you won't really notice a difference otherwise.
