Completed my build and all was good with SATA HDD, SATA DVD-RW, and floppy drive. Added an SATA DVD-ROM and Windows hangs at the splash screen. HDD activity light glows steady with no HDD activity. Both DVDs are recognized in BIOS. I have boot sequence set to HDD, DVD-RW, Floppy. (The DVD-ROM isn't included in the boot sequence, and still WinXP hangs.)

HDD is plugged into SATA 1
DVD-RW in SATA 2
DVD-ROM in 3

What am I missing?

What happens if you go with just the DVD-ROM and leave the DVD-RW uninstalled?

Rob,

Haven't tried that...I'll play with it more this evening.

I did find this fix for SATA optical drives in VISTA.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928253/

All-in-all the build went well, just a couple annoyances, like no auto shut off.

Thanks for your help.

Rob,

Got Windows to load with both optical drives. I have the DVD-RW on SATA2, and the DVD reader on SATA6. :D

Nice. Way to stick with it!
