Hello there. I'm building my first dream rig for myself and I was wondering if the pros around here would mind taking a look at my list that I compiled on newegg.com and see if there are any hardware conflicts I'm missing, or see if there were suggestions. I want to build a rig that has 8GB of RAM and can USE it so when I'm playing games they dont freeze anymore. I'm pretty sure Guild Wars will run on a 64 bit system. I also decided to run dual boot between xp 64 bit and xp 32 bit for program issues (should they arrise). What do you all think? Here's the parts list:

Are you trying to stay within a certain budget? What is your budget?

My budget is limitless because I'm saving up for it. I dont' buy things on credit cards so I save for everything. Right now I'm just above 2000 on my estimate, that doesn't phase me much at all. I've put the cheap parts on my christmas lists for friends/family and I've already saved a couple hundred towards it.

Do you really want such a high end rig with such a small monitor? I'd at least go 22" widescreen, IMO. ;)

Yeah, I agree with Jason. Splash out on a nice monitor, you will really notice the difference. Samsung do some very nice 22" monitors, and you will not regret saving the extra $300.

I would suggest making a few changes in order to get the best performance. Change the PSU for a Corsair 750TX (N82E16817139006), as this is one of the best PSUs you can get today. Remember that quality is a lot more important that wattage in PSU terms.

You should also think about going with the Q9550 for your CPU, as this is from the latest generation and offers a significant performance increase over the Q6600.

To match this CPU, I would suggest buying a motherboard with a more modern chipset e.g. X38 or 780i as these will work better with the newer hardware.

You might want to consider buying a second, larger HD for storage purposes, as this will reduce the strain on your Raptor - you can get a WD 640GB drive for $75 (N82E16822136298).

Lastly, I recommend getting Vista 64-bit. I know there was a lot of issues when Vista first came out, but I have been running it for a while now and have had no issues, as have several others on this forum. Almost everything nowadays offers support for 64-bit OSs, and it is the only way you will be able to use all 8GB of RAM.

Oh, and I can play Far Cry 2 on the highest settings on Vista 64, and my PC isn't as powerful as yours will be. :D
