Okay. So I'm workin on compiling a list of good components to put into my gaming pc I plan to build, once I have the money. I'll link the parts I'm lookin at cause I love any and all feedback on what looks good and what could use some improvement. So here goes

Most of the time I am told to not bother with a soundcard, though lately I've read that it helps take a bit of load off the mobo as well as produce better quality sound. If there are more benefits to getting a soundcard, I'd be happy to know and what kind to look for.

Just out of curiosity....what case are you going to be using?

Looks like a solid build...one that will score a pretty high benchmark. As far as the sound card goes, the one that Rob recommends on the front page of his site is an extremely high-quality card for a good price ESPECIALLY if you plan on buying those speakers you linked. I myself am using the Logitech Z-5500 505 watt system with the X-Fi XtremeGamer sound card and let me tell you...WOW!

that one, but I've checked the specs for the mobo and everything else and it should all fit nicely. Heat may be a slight problem since it's a steel case, but honestly, I'm sure it wont be a big deal, seeing as the room the computer will be in is almost always a constant 45 degrees if not colder. I like my room nice and cool. ^_^ Fan noise wont bother me much either seeing as how I'll usually have to use headphones when the family is home and when they arent I'll have the speakers up too loud anyway.

Sweet. So two thumbs up with no alternate suggestions. Seems I've done my research fairly well. I'm a little shaky on the mobo still, but from what I've seen it shouldnt give me any real problems.

But one question I do have is, do I need to get a 5.1 soundcard for it to be compatible with my speakers or can I get a 7.1 and still use 5.1 speakers?

I don't know for sure, but I think it must be that a 7.1 sound card will work just fine with a 5.1 speaker setup.

I should think there wouldnt be a problem, so meh, I'll go with it and see what happens. I plan on building a second computer down the line and if it doesnt work, I'll just hold onto the part and use it in that PC. That one will be more for music recording, editing, creation, as well as video stuff. In a band you see.
