Just tried to install new memory and apart from a smell of hot plastic and 3 bleeps from BIOS (2-1) I have little to shout about.
System is Compac Evo D310. Original memory of DDR 750MB (256+512) running at 266MHz. According to Crucial website all DDR is backward compatible up to PC3200 so I ordered Kingston PC3200 2x1GB set and followed the install instructions. First attempt I guess I didn't push the second card home fully and the machine failed to boot and a faint smell of burning plastic was my reward. I don't know if the part fitted card was the issue or the 400MHz vs 266MHz spec. Any ideas on what to do now?
