Hello everyone,
Below are some RAM options ranging from PC2 6400 to PC3 12800. I am a bit confused about performance with all of the options out there. I assume that with equal clock speed (i.e. 1066MHz), the memory with the lower Cas Latency will show greater performance. It is hard to know when clock speeds are not equal. The PC2 6400 has a Cas Latency 4. Will it outperform the PC2 8500 with Cas Latency 5? Is there a rule of thumb for figuring the optimal combination?
I am considering the OCZ Reaper HPC 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666), but I am not sure it will outperform the OCZ Reaper HPC 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1200 (PC2 9600), or even the OCZ Reaper HPC 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500), on a motherboard and processor with 1333FSB. The DDR3 is twice as expensive, but I am not sure it is any faster.
Advice would be appreciated.
