It's a bit of overkill for general use, but it will be able to handle pretty much anything you throw at it. :)

I remember somebody told me my 4 GB of RAM was something I wasn't even going to use and I should have just put 2 GB in it, how can that ever be useless, cuz even if I dont use it, it still helps the computer right?

Which image?

As well as some portions of RAM being reserved, some of it is shared with your GFX card, so if you have a 512MB GFX card, then you can only address about 3.5GB of the RAM.

But you are using a 64-bit OS, so you don't need to worry about that. :)
