I understand that you have to have a seperate windows OS for each PC. Can I use my old windows OS (Windows XP) in my new Computer if I am not using the old PC anymore?

I would really like to upgrade to a new PC but I am worried about having to upgrade to Windows Vista within the next year. If I could just transfer my old Windows XP and then buy the Vista upgrade for the new PC that would solve my problem.

If your new PC can still support your old hard drive you would have lost nothing in the process (except maybe the old PC). That way you just get the Vista upgrade and voila!

Edit: With this whole Windows Genuine check going on right now yes, you do need a unique copy of Windows XP on your other PC (if you use a bootleg copy you won't get any microsoft updates). You could always used some sort of back up method to keep your same files and transfer those to your new PC. Of course you would only resort to this if your new PC is not compatible with the old hard drive from your old PC.
