Building my own computer has been on my list of life-time accomplishments for the longest time. I have always seen people with their own computers, and I saw myself with a brand-name box. Although they are not bad, I always wanted to break the dependancy from Brand-names and technical support and used the Internet as my primary tool.
I read through the majority of the online tutorial, and bought the book (http://www.lulu.com/content/230428). Both of them were very beneficial at teaching me the basic information about computer components that I needed. An example of this is the RAM barrier between 32-bit and 64-bit OSs. I bought 4 GB of RAM (don't worry, I'm using it), and would have bought WinXP 32bit to use this. From the tutorial, I learned that 4 GB isn't fully utilized on 32bit. This saved me some humiliation and facepalms from my friends!

My new build is beautiful, but it did cost me a pretty penny. It is worth is, though, since I plan to use this computer as my video powerhouse for Video Production. Here is a photo gallery (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=42536&l=806fb&id=590573265) of my computer, and the list of components (http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=7559431) that is held internal (what is not shown is my second monitor, the Westinghouse L2210NW (http://www.westinghousedigital.com/details.aspx?itemnum=183)). Enjoy! I know I am! ~^.=.^~

Well done and congrats!

The peripherals are what killed you on the total cost. $300 for a blue ray burner & $150 for speakers... yikes! To be honest I'm just jealous... that BR burner looks sweet.

Congrats. :)

In your list of components, you have 11 cases, CPUs and a few other things though, so it looked at first that you paid $12000 for you PC. :O

Thanks Rob, Wise Monkey, and Chunky Lover (I laughed while typing that name).

I hope not to regret the purchase of the burner. The speakers are okay what with the stereo-to-surroundsound matrix, but it has some kind of metallic scattering that occurs on certain songs. The burner is working so far with DVD+R DL discs, and I have yet to try burning a BD+R and BD+RE on it - they are coming in the mail.

Sorry, I'm making random comments on my computer. :)

I might also note that building this computer has broken the anxiety barrier I have always had about computers. I feel like experimenting with other companies now, not just the top-rate ones.
...well, I'll experiment with them when I get money. I'm broke now!
