Just as the title says, can it be done? I have a supposedly "good" video card that doesn't boot either of two functional computers I've tried it in.

Uh, not really. What happens when you try and boot?

No on-screen visuals. After installing the card, I can click the switch for the power supply back on, and the machine turns on. Obviously, it shouldn't do this, it should only turn on when you press the power-on button in the front. The machine is on, however, does not boot, and does not display anything on-screen.

Ok, there are two issues here:

1. Try re-doing the wiring for the front panel, as it sounds as if the power switch wires may be the wrong way around
2. Have you tried the things that Rob suggests in his common first boot problems? Even if it is not a first boot, it is still worth looking at.
