My wife bought me a new headset for my birthday a couple of weeks ago.

I was previously using a Logitech headset that used a USB port on the top/front of my Antec 900 case. This new headset uses the two audio ports; one for headphones, and one for the mic. So my problem is that the sound is great, but the mic doesn't work. I can plug into the audio ports in the back of the pc and they both work fine. Its just the mic port on the top/front doesn't work.

any suggestions?

Are you using Vista? What does it say in the Audoio Devices when you plug the mic in the front port?

Yeah, its Vista Home Premium.

Device Manager recognizes the hardware as "High Definition Audio Device". The driver is up to date, and I know the mic works, because it works in the back of the pc.

Hmmm...

Have you used a mic in the front panel before?

I had a similar problem. Are you using a MB that has integrated sound?

This is the first time I've ever tried a mic in the front panel. I always use the usb port until now. Its very possible that it has never worked.

And yes, I do not have a sound card, so I'm using the IP35 Pro onboard sound.

Try re-checking the connection from the front audio panel to the onboard audio, see if it has come loose or is just attached the wrong way around. :)
