When a chipset for a video card (eg NVidia) is included on the motherboard, what exactly does this mean? That the video card is preinstalled or there is something additional for the video card to work?

It means that your motherboard includes a very basic graphics unit that is actually built into the board. Most laptops have these as it saves on space and power.
